There’s been some good news and bad news in the Vermont scene. First, the bad so we can savor the good later. Backache beer and Collaborative brewing are no longer in business in Vermont. But, the story may not be over. Collaborative seems to have been misplaced, or displaced - basically, they’re without a home. You can still find the product they’ve already put out into the world for a while longer, but they ended their message on their closing with this line “Our hearts are heavy now that it’s coming to an end, and optimistic for what all our awesome minds will do next” which seems to make it sound like the chapter has ended, but there’s more to come in their story. Let’s hope. The other is Backacre who started in Denver, came to Vermont, and now are going back to Denver. Their story isn’t over - but the beer might be a bit harder to get your hands on - though it was always a bit of a challenge. It sounds like relationships they’ve built here will keep their product on shelves for some time. So again - the story isn’t over. The good news is that 14th Star in St Albans is growing and changing. If you’ve been to their taproom in the past - expect to see some big changes there soon, and new beer lines as they celebrate 10 years! It looks like everything at 14th Star is getting a refresh though - including can designs. Mill River Brewing is also growing - they’ll be adding a new taproom, with some table service, to focus more on the beer as they’ve been split between brews and BBQs. While the restaurant toed the line between a brewpub and restaurant - they will allow them to make some separation - that will probably benefit both sides of the business. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just got his Red Notice.. or maybe it was a green notice as his Teremana Tequila brand just got staked by Mast-Jägermeister! What will that mean? Through the new relationship, Mast-Jägermeister will assist in the Tequila’s international sales, marketing & logistics strategies, and bring organizational structure to Teremana’s international rollout. That will happen in the next few months, but Mast-Jägermeister will be there to help increase capacity, scale and distribution too. shorturl.at/inCNR
With the Canada/US border reopening - maybe it’s time for a trip! Quebec makes all kinds of great brews - but Cidrerie Lacroix sounds like it’s certainly worth the drive - if you like snowy adventures like snowshoeing, visiting the stables, checking out the food at Halte Gourmande, and - most especially - cider.
